I’m a complete beginner and a little unfit, is Muay Thai for me?

It sure is! Our expert Muay Thai trainers and Personal Trainers have extensive experience working with people of all ability levels, from complete beginners to professional fighters.

One of the best things about Muay Thai is that it’s as hard as you make it; If you need to take 5 minutes to recover at the side of the ring, that’s no problem. If you’re having a good day and want to push yourself a little harder to achieve a new personal best, then we’re right behind you! Our trainers will motivate you to achieve your goals whilst being respectful of your boundaries and abilities



I need to lose a lot of weight, am I prepared for Muay Thai?

Yes you are! Muay Thai training is essentially a type of High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) that, according to NutriStrategy and Evolve MMA, is one of the most effective calorie burning activities you can do, allowing the average person to burn close to 1000 calories per hour (and our training sessions are 90 minutes each!)

Muay Thai incorporates a cardiovascular workout with full body strength and conditioning – There is no question that, when combined with the right diet, weight loss and improved fitness is inevitable for those who regularly participate in Muay Thai training.

Rest assured that we have many guests who arrive unfit and overweight, with the goal of transforming their bodies and changing their lives – we’re incredibly proud to be part of their journey and have seen many guests lose 30 to 40 kilos during their stay!

Remember, our expert trainers will adapt to your ability and encourage you every step of the way. Our Weight Loss Package includes includes a carefully considered meal plan, 3 meals per day, an option detox, body composition analysis, nutrion consultations and regular progress reviews to ensure that you have the right tools and support to achieve your goals.



I have commitments online to take care of during my stay, is that okay?

Of course! Lanta Muay Thai Academy and Lanta Sport Resort has free wifi available in all rooms that will usually offer speeds of around 10mbps to 12mbps.

Our packages offer training in the early morning, late morning and afternoon – you can attend as many or as few as you choose! If you’re busy in the afternoon, no problem, let’s do a fitness session and yoga in the morning. If you have a call in the morning, no sweat, join us for the afternoon Muay Thai session!

As with everywhere in Thailand, the island does experience power cuts from time to time – the majority of those power cuts are resolved within 5 minutes, however on rare occasions they can last longer. If you need internet access at all times, we would recommend having a local SIM card as a back-up in case of a power cut.

Top Tip – AIS is one of the largest 4G providers in Thailand and on Koh Lanta you will often receive speeds of over 100mbps using AIS 4G (you can pick-up a SIM at the airport, or at the AIS store in Koh Lanta, and then top-up online or at many of the convenience stores on the island).



I’d like to stay a long time – is that possible?

Absolutely – we have many guests who choose to stay with us from 3 to 6 months and some who have been a guest over a year!

Most of our long stay guests are able to stay by applying for an education visa, which grants visitors the opportunity to stay for 3, 6, 9 or 12 months at a time. Luckily for you, Lanta Sport Resort is the only facility in Koh Lanta that is certified by the Ministry of Education to deliver courses which will allow you to participate in Muay Thai as part of an Education Visa.

If you’re more interested in fitness than fighting, that’s no problem! As an alternative to the Muay Thai Education Visa, we are one of the only facilities in the entire country to offer a Fitness Education Visa – if you stay long enough, you could leave as a qualified Personal Trainer!

I don’t have any equipment, can I get it there?

You absolutely can! We have a Muay Thai & Fitness shop on site – we recommend you bring comfortable clothes for working out, however other than that you can rest assured that everything you will need for your training can be purchased when you arrive – please feel free to Contact us for prices or to check if we have your size.



I’m not interested in parts of the package, can I choose what I do?

That’s no problem at all. We’ve design our timetable so that, during training times, there’s usually more than one activity to choose from.

In the early morning and afternoon sessions you can choose to participate in Fitness or Muay Thai. The late morning session allows you to often choose from Yoga or Muay Thai. If you don’t feel like training one day, we often have community events that are included as part of your package like temple visits, market trips and excursions that you can join us on – we’ve designed the timetable to offer you complete flexibility!

If you’re staying long term as part of an education visa, the visa may have specific participation requirements that you can learn about in the Long Stay section of our site – rest assured though that the participation requirements are not excessive and will still offer you a great deal of freedom.

For guests not on an education visa, our full timetable will be included in your package and it’s completely up to you how much or how little you choose to participate in!



How do I get to Lanta Muay Thai Academy?

Lanta Muay Thai Academy is on site at Lanta Sport Resort, in the heart of the island of Koh Lanta Yai. To get to Koh Lanta, we would recommend flying to Krabi Airport, however it’s still easy to get here from Phuket Airport too.

From Phuket Airport, you are either able to take a private transfer to the Koh Lanta ferry (which will take about 4 hours and may be quite expensive), or alternatively you can book a ferry or speedboat to Koh Lanta (you may have to change ferry at Koh Phi Phi in the middle).

It’s likely to take you 1 hour to get from the Airport to the ferry port in Phuket and then 3 hours in total on the water (with additional time if you need to changeover at Koh Phi Phi) – this will take you to Saladan, which is the town at the top of Koh Lanta Yai.

From Krabi Airport, we would recommend making the journey to Koh Lanta by road. You can add airport private transfers to any of our Packages, or alternatively you can make private arrangements by bus or taxi.

The journey from Krabi Airport to the Koh Lanta ferry crossing will take about 1 hour by private transfer, or up to 2 hours by bus. The ferry crossing may have a short queue and the crossing itself takes approximately 15 minutes. The ferry will take you to Koh Lanta Noi, from here it will take about 15 minutes to drive to Saladan.

If you’ve booked a private transfer then you’ll be taken directly to Lanta Muay Thai Academy – if you’ve made your own travel arrangements though, we would recommend taking a Tuk Tuk from Saladan to Lanta Sport Resort, which will take about 20 minutes.
